Flash to Power Internet-via-Satellite Service From Shin Satellite

Flash Networks today announced a contract agreement with Shin Satellite Plc. of Thailand, Asia's leading satellite operator.

HOLMDEL, NJ (August 28, 2000) - Flash Networks, a global provider of high-performance satellite and wireless data network solutions, today announced a contract agreement with Shin Satellite Plc. of Thailand, Asia's leading satellite operator. This agreement allows Shin Satellite to integrate Flash Networks' NettGainTM technology in its iPSTAR broadband satellite system, providing low-cost telecommunications, Internet, and multimedia services to households and businesses throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

NettGain enables accelerated data transmission and reduces bandwidth requirements, using a variety of flow-control mechanisms, acceleration techniques, and real-time data compression algorithms. NettGain, together with Shin Satellite's unique and flexible architecture, will allow iPSTAR to provide nominal capacity of up to 40 gigabits per second, increasing efficiency 20 times over conventional satellite technology.

"Multimedia Internet applications have experienced exponential growth in recent years and continue to grow very rapidly," said Dr. Dumrong Kasemset, chief executive officer of Shin Satellite. "Our system will focus on the portion of the network which connects to the end users - the 'Last Mile' portion. Integrating technology from Flash Networks will allow us to provide the end user with a low-cost, high-capacity satellite system for better Internet access."

"In Asia, there is great demand for high-speed Internet access, but the terrestrial infrastructure cannot adequately support this rising demand," said Zvi Peled, CEO, Flash Networks. "This integration will enable Shin to deliver on the promise of Internet access via satellite with higher speeds for data transmission. With download speeds of up to 10 Mbps to customers, and upload speeds of up to 4 Mbps, iPSTAR will provide revolutionary satellite-based broadband Internet services with unprecedented levels of performance."
