Cable & Wireless HKT Selects Flash Networks

Flash Networks has announced that Cable & Wireless has selected Flash Networks' technology to accelerate Internet access in Asia-Pacific.

NETWORLD + INTEROP 2000, LAS VEGAS, NV (May 10, 2000) - Flash Networks, a global provider of network-enhancement solutions, announced today that Cable & Wireless, a major global telecommunications business, has selected Flash Networks' technology, NettGain™, to accelerate Internet access in Asia-Pacific. Cable & Wireless HKT intends to integrate and deploy NettGain across 500 remote stations by the end of 2000.

NettGain increases data transmission speeds over satellite connections by up to four-fold and significantly improves performance and reliability of data communications over two-way and hybrid satellite network links, with download speeds improving proportionally as bandwidth capacity expands.

"We are impressed with the throughput increases achieved by NettGain," said Kwok-Wah, Chan, general manager, Broadcast & Fixed Satellite Services of Cable & Wireless HKT. "Some countries in the Asia-Pacific region rely heavily on satellite communication due to the underdeveloped network infrastructure. Flash Networks can provide us with a reliable solution that brings satellite communication performance to terrestrial levels and beyond."

Cable & Wireless HKT is deploying NettGain to enhance its Multimedia Satellite Services in Hong Kong and various locations across the region. Generally, the satellite links are 1.2 Mb/s in size with a terrestrial return channel. With NettGain in place, average download speeds will triple, giving the company an edge over the local competitors.
