Swisscom Chooses Flash Networks to Enable Mobile Data Access Offering

Swisscom Mobile has chosen Flash's NettGain to enable the provision of high-speed, secure data access services to Swiss businesses and consumers.

Herzelia, Israel: Swisscom Mobile, the mobile telecommunications subsidiary of Swisscom, has chosen Flash Network’s NettGain to enable the provision of high-speed, secure data access services to the Swiss business and consumer community.

Typically, bandwidth for 2.5G/GPRS mobile networks is limited to ranges from 9.6K to 14.4K, which is unsuitable for most current types of data communication. NettGain transforms the standard infrastructure of mobile networks into one capable of providing secure email services, full access to enterprise applications such as Microsoft Exchange, and fully-featured Internet browsing.

“We were impressed by NettGain’s track record with other providers, which gave us the confidence to choose it to provide the quality of service our clients demand,” said Swisscom Mobile’s Head of Services and Platform Management, Markus Doetsch.

GPRS technology has been integrated in Swisscom Mobile's existing NATEL® network for over a year but they held back with the commercial rollout of GPRS until the high requirements for both the mobile network and the GPRS terminals had been met.

“We are delighted that Swisscom Mobile has chosen a proven and tested solution to enable its GPRS services,” replied Flash Network’s CEO Zvi Peled. “NettGain continues to demonstrate its superiority as the ‘must-have’ solution for mobile providers.”

A study by US-based analysts Ovum revealed that 86% of companies surveyed would wirelessly enable their business if they could seamlessly integrate existing corporate applications. Another survey from In-Stat/MDR in March 2002 claimed that the number of business wireless data users is to grow from 6.6 million at the end of 200, to more than 39 million in 2006. Flash Networks is well-positioned to build on its existing technological leadership
