Flash Networks to Present Research on Wireless Authentication

Flash Networks announced today they will address the PCCA Standards and Architecture Committee in San Francisco, CA.

Tel Aviv, Israel – November 12, 2003 – Flash Networks (www.flashnetworks.com) a global leader of mobile data delivery solutions announced today that Joe Fried, Flash Networks’ Director of Business Development, will address the PCCA (Portable Computer and Communications Association) Standards and Architecture Committee in San Francisco, CA on November 12, 2003. Mr. Fried is presenting the practical approach for Deploying SIM-based Authentication over 802.1x networks in his address to the group at San Francisco’s International Airport DoubleTree Hotel.

Wireless hotspots are expanding in popularity across the globe and their interactivity with cellular networks is of prime concern. Network operators have identified user and data security as a key function for enabling increased usage among the business community. The most secure method for authenticating a wireless user is by using a SIM card – similar to cellular network authentication. Mr. Fried will address the practical issues relating to the deployment of SIM-based authentication over 802.1x hot spots and show how this technology can also be used in a non-802.1x environment. He will present the benefits of using a software-based virtual-SIM on both 802.1x and non-802.1x environments. The practical approach presented by Mr. Fried is based on information gathered from Flash Network’s 30 worldwide commercial deployements.

“SIM based authentication is paramount in deploying wireless security applications for wireless networks and for accelerating the business community’s uptake of mobile data applications,” Fried comments. “No matter what type of network exists or how spotty coverage is, securing the communications must be a reality and not just a promise. Working with the PCCA we are looking at various standards for SIM authentication over wireless networks that will lead to higher network and application adoption.”
